V Ashok appointed Essar Group CFO

Mumbai, Oct 30: The Essar Group today announced the appointment of V Ashok as the Chief Financial Officer for its India operations. V Ashok has been with the Essar Group for over 13 years and his elevation to the new role is an indication of the strong internal line up of experienced professionals within the Essar group management which is now ready to take on higher responsibilities in the company, a company statement said.
 Essar Group across all its businesses and functions continues to develop and build on its strong line up of managers who are leading the organisation into its next phase of growth and execution of ongoing projects. V Ashok joined the Finance team of Essar Shipping in 1997 and was responsible for systematically developing the accounting role at Essar Shipping into a properly structured finance organization.
 V Ashok takes over from Mr. V G Raghavan who has retired after an illustrious career of over 34 years with Essar. Raghavan will however continue his association with the group as a Special Advisor and will also continue to be on the GMC (Group Management Committee). He will be Essar's nominee on Boards of its several companies and will also be part of the various management and executive committees of the GMC. The Essar Group is a multinational conglomerate and a leading player in the sectors of Steel, Oil & Gas, Power, Communications, Shipping Ports & Logistics, Projects and Minerals. With operations in more than 20 countries across five continents, the Group employs 60,000 people, with revenues of USD 15 billion.
