CPI (M) for unconditional dialogue
New Delhi, Aug 31: Anguished over young children and people being constantly killed in police firing in Jammu and Kashmir, CPI(M) member Brinda Karat Tuesday demanded a time-bound probe into the excesses and unconditional dialogue with all sections of the society.
"Stone pelting cannot be answered with bullets. Sixty five persons have been killed there in the last two months while undertaking peaceful protests. An all-party delegation should be sent to Jammu and Kashmir to express solidarity with them," she said through a Zero Hour notice in the Rajya Sabha.
She said a time bound and independent probe should be conducted into the excesses there and unconditional dialogue initiated with all sections of the society.
The delay in starting dialogue shows "callousness" of the government, she said.
"The Prime Minister had recently spoken of non-lethal methods for resolving the prevailing situation in JK. I want to know how many more are to be killed and incapacitated. For how long government will allow such excesses?" she asked.
