Navy divers to search Zuhaib’s body in Mansar
MISSING HAWAL BOY
MUDDASIR ALI
Srinagar, Sept 10: The Jammu and Kashmir government has sought help from Indian Navy to trace the body of a Kashmiri medical student, who police claim had jumped into Mansar Lake in Jammu in May this year, officials said on Friday.
They said a 6-member team of Navy divers is scheduled to arrive in Jammu this evening to begin the search to locate the body of Sayeed Zuhaib Rizwi of Hawal. Zuhaib was pursuing MBBS in Acharya Shri Chandra Medical College, Jammu.
“The team will start its work from tomorrow,” the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal told Greater Kashmir.
The Chief Secretary, S S Kapur said that he had personally written to the Union Defense Secretary last month seeking center’s help to locate Zuhaib’s body. “The mother of the boy had approached my office to seek Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah’s intervention into the matter. After she expressed her concerns we acted promptly and asked Navy to send the divers,” Kapur added.
After initial investigations police had reported that Zuhaib had committed suicide by jumping into Mansar Lake on May 14. His mother had rejected the police version claiming that his son would never commit a suicide.
Zuhaib’s family members have been alleging that he might have been abducted as police and army divers failed to locate his body.
Later it was reported that on the day of his disappearance from the park near the lake his wallet with some cash and cards was found there.
Zuhaib’s friends had also rejected the theory that he could have ended his life. “He was quiet content with his performance in pursuing his studies,” they had said.
