Muzaffarabad, Sept 15:  The AJK Prime Minister Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan on Wednesday called upon the people of Pakistan and AJK as well as the Pakistani and Kashmiri expatriates across the world to stage protest rallies and demonstrations on Friday to condemn the reign of terror let loose in Jammu and Kashmir.
Separately, a group of former Kashmiri militants and Kashmir refugees, however, urged the residents of Muzaffarabad to observe a total wheel jam and shutter down strike on Saturday to express ‘support and solidarity’ with the valiant Kashmiris braving the worst ever repression of their history.
In a statement, the AJK premier said the fresh spate of atrocities and human rights violations by troopers was unparalleled and international community must take immediate measures to bring it to an end and resolve the basic issue.
He warned that India’s obduracy was dragging the South Asian region towards the brink of a devastating war and the situation therefore warranted immediate international intervention.
“Particularly the United States and the United Kingdom will have to play a leading role with regard to settlement of Kashmir issue,” he said.
The AJK premier also called upon the British MPs of Kashmir origin to lodge a case against India in the International Criminal Court for committing atrocities in Kashmir which were reminiscent of Nazi war crimes.
“India wants to suppress the struggle through state terrorism but it won’t succeed in its nefarious designs through the use of brute force.”
The AJK government, he said, would also summon a special session of the Legislative Assembly to discuss the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Valley.
In a separate statement, AJK President Raja Zulqarnain Khan appreciated the efforts of All Party Group for Kashmir in the European Parliament for highlighting the issue and underscoring its early settlement and asked its office bearers and members to launch a vigorous campaign to expose the ongoing repression in the held Valley before the comity of nations.
However, in Muzaffarabad, former Kashmiri militants and refugees called for a complete shutter down and wheel jam strike on Saturday to express solidarity and support with the Kashmiris on the one hand and condemn their persecution. “Its high time the people in this part of Kashmir also put their share in the freedom movement by at least expressing complete support and solidarity with their struggling brethren on the other side of divide,” said Hamid Nawaz, Bilal Khan and others of Refugee Welfare Organisation.
They asked the traders to observe a complete shutter down strike on Saturday during which the transporters and private motorists should also keep their vehicles off the streets.
“We need to tell our valiant brethren that we - who breathe in a free air - are not oblivion to their plight and stand firmly and fully beside them in their heroic struggle,” they said.
“As actions speak louder than words, we will prove with our deeds that we are also part of the freedom struggle.”
