‘My name is Muma Kana and I am not an Ikhwani’
Counter-insurgent claims he is victim on NC-PDP tussle
KASHMIR NEWS SERVICE
Srinagar, Sept 1: The notorious counter-insurgent Padma Shri, Ghulam Muhammad Mir alias Muma Kana on Wednesday said he was a victim of tussle between National Conference and PDP.
“I am a civilian not an Ikhwani. The allegations leveled against me that I am reviving Ikhwan are baseless are a result of tussle between NC and PDP.,” a local news agency KNS quoted Kana as having said.
“I was earlier affiliated with Congress. But I voted for NC. Mufti Sayeed gave mandate to my daughter for elections as no one was ready to contest the elections that time,” he added.
“Presently I am leading a normal life and my name is being unnecessarily dragged into the controversy of reviving Ikhwan,” he said.
Kana said he had not information whether senior PDP leaders Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari had given the statement against him on his own or on somebody’s instigation. “But the need of the hour is that violence and killings should end in Kashmir. Government should take steps to engage the unemployed youth so that they don’t indulge in other activities. India and Pakistan are nuclear powers but the employment problem is more dangerous which if left unattended will consume the entire Valley,” he said.
Kana urged the Government to provide passports to the Kashmiris intending to visit Pakistan. “After seeing the ground realities, the Kashmiris can decide whether they want to live with Pakistan or India. Killings won’t yield anything. If a Muslim kills a Muslim it is against Islamic teachings,” he said.
Kana maintained that if people believe that he has committed mistakes in the past, they should forgive him. “In this case I seek forgiveness from whole nation,” he added.
Pertinently, after receiving Padma Shri Kana had claimed that he was instrumental in killing of over 5000 militants.
