APD visiting Jammu today, to meet 70 delegations

JAMMU, SEPT 20: As many as 70 delegations representing various political, social, business and trade organizations have been listed to meet the All Party Delegation visiting here tomarrow in connection with its three day tour to the state undertaken to assess the situation in the state, sources said on MondayThe delegation which reached Srinagar today in charted plan, will reach Jammu on September 21 will meet various social, political and NGO delegations and interact with them on the prevailing situation in the state in the backdrop of three month long disturbance, particularly in Kashmir valley.“Our main thrust will be on extending an economic package and measures for restoring peace in the state”, said Y.V Sharma, president Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Jammu. Sharma said that the traders and manufacturers have suffered colossal losses due to the present crisis.Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation in Jammu led by state president Shamsher Singh Manhas will submit a memorandum to the visiting delegation.“For us total integration of Jammu and Kashmir with rest of the country is the only solution to the Kashmir and we will make clear our stand”, Singh said. BJP state president said that voice of the nationalist elements is being suppressed at the expense of the ‘separatist elements’.Among the displaced Kashmiri Pandits, members of the Apex committee, constituted by the government for the rehabilitation of the community, have been invited by the government.“We want to make it clear that for any solution to the Kashmir issue, displaced Kashmiri Pandits should be involved in the talk process as they are also party to the issue”, said R.K Bhat, Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS).However J&K National Panthers Party (JKNPP), an important voice from Jammu region, having four MLAs in the Assembly have decided to boycott the meet.“It will not serve any purpose nor will it help in restoring law and order in the state”, said MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia, Others who will be meeting the delegation include Bar Association of Jammu (BAJ), Jammu Joint Student Federation (JJSF), J&K Peoples Forum (JKPF) and Oil Tankers Association (OTA).Meanwhile, Shia Federation Jammu has expressed strong resentment against not inviting the organisation to meet the delegation. MCC president, Ashiq Hussian said that administration has earlier invited the representatives of the Shia Federation but later at the eleventh hour they were dropped from the list of invitees."Its surprising that pick and choose policy has been adopted by the government and real representaives have been ignored", Ashiq Hussian said.The joint Parliamentary team led by Home Minister P Chidambaram will also meet some of the trader associations and tour operators who have also suffered immense losses during the present crisis in the state.Sources said that the team will reach Jammu at 1.30 PM in a chartered flight.They will meet political parties, public, all social, trade and other organizations, besides NGOs between 2.30 pm to 8.30 pm.The delegation will meet chief minister Omar Abdullah, from 8.30 pm to 9 pm before the dinner.It is pertinent to mention here that such an All Party Delegation from the centre has visited to the State after a gap of 20 years.In 1990, an all-party delegation led by then Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal had come to review the law and order situation in the State soon after the eruption of militancy in the state.
