Youth wounded in CRPF firing
UMER MAQBOOL DAR
Srinagar, Sept 25: One person was wounded, when paramilitary CRPF troopers opened fire at protesters in north Kashmir’s Sopur town on Saturday, witnesses said.
“CRPF troopers resorted to indiscriminate firing to quell a pro-freedom demonstration during relaxation period. In the CRPF action a youth was wounded,” they added.
The injured was identified as Muhammad Haroon Beigh son of Abdul Ahad of Mahrajpora. As the word about the incident spread in the area hundreds of people took to the streets and staged a massive demonstration. Protesters were demanding stern action against the erring CRPF men.
However, a police spokesman said, “During the changeover of forces at Mahrajpora, Sheikh Sahib area of Sopur, miscreants pelted stones on them. In an effort to control the situation, one person suffered minor injury.”
