UN watching

I was surprised to read the news story “UN calls for restraint in Kashmir.” The United Nations seems to have lost its credibility among the people of Kashmir. Last time it withdrew its statement on Kashmir even as it had rattled the Indian leadership. Now after over 100 civilian killings, the organization has called for restraint in Kashmir. But who has to exercise the restraint. It would have been better if the United Nations had pressured New Delhi that its forces in Kashmir must not kill unarmed civilians. It seems that the UN wants to be in the good books of India. That is why its secretary is making irresponsible statements even after claiming that it was watching the Kashmir situation closely. If UN is sincere about the Kashmir crisis, it must depute a team of officials to Kashmir to ascertain the ground situation.
