In response to Munshi Subhash letter on Kashmir

I am responding to Munshi Subash's letter titled “Why complain about All Party Delegation.” (GK, 24 Sept). He has asked 'Kashmiri Muslims' to demand either freedom or benefits and favours from Indian state. According to him the two can't go hand in hand. Call it tragic comedy; he also wants us to fight for freedom even if it takes us 100 more years because it took the Indian sub-continent about 200 years to get rid of colonial British and, even if freedom asks for sacrifice of eight year old kids. It is an absurd logic!  One wonders why Mr Subhash is confused as to what Kashmiris want. Why don't you ask Indian politicians, who have kept this issue on boil for so long and who even took it to UN, to hold a plebiscite so that you could know what people want? Under the auspices of the United Nations Kashmiris have been promised of a referendum. Why does India shy away from holding the one. Don't hold on to biased Indian media showing you a few selfish and short-sighted individuals from
Kashmir asking for jobs and economic packages. Roam on the streets of Kashmir and you won't have to strain your ears to listen to what people at large want. The message will come across to you loud and clear. Moreover India is not doing a philanthropic act by giving us economic packages here and there because we have been robbed off our economy. It has been about four months of unrest here and why has your Indian state maintained silence? How does it bear the wounds on it's 'atoot ang'? Mind you this generation is well aware of the history of its motherland and can't be fooled by
anybody's advices. Better India keeps its favours, benefits and your suggestions to it and gives Kashmir the right which is so long overdue. Live and let live in peace.
