Airport closure: Communal identities figure nowhere

This refers to column INKSIGHT Airport Chalo. I think comparisons on communal terms are not genuine. In a context like this terms like `Hindu' and `Muslim' only deepen the polarization between two communities. It was an issue purely based on some technicalities where identities have no role. Though the column has been placed in a historic backdrop and the details given are rooted in a certain academic context, but still we must always desist from dragging Hindu and Muslim identities into the subject. It is a discourse which can have the potential of getting misinterpreted as well. No doubt this step was taken in the background of Amarnath Yatra and that did create some suspicions in masses as well, but that can necessarily not be the reason behind the announcement of airport closure.
It is always good to put forth a viewpoint and point towards some faults, but while doing that we must not take the extreme view of anything. Particularly when it is the question of talking about communal identities. That is the need of the hour.
