Janamashtami celebrated with fervour in JK

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

Jammu: The festival of Janamashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna, was celebrated with traditional gaiety and religious fervour across J&K today, especially in the winter capital known for its temples.
Devotees visited temples which were adorned with a festive look as the sound of bhajans and kirtans reverberated.
Several impressive Raghunath Rath Yatras were taken out in various parts of the city in which hundreds of people participated.
Shoba Yatras were also taken out in Poonch and Udhampur towns last evening.
Members of the Muslim community led by Muslim Federation President Abdul Majid greeted the Rath Yatra at Talab Khatikan area. They erected gates decorated with flowers and lights at different places to welcome the devotees.

 Temple reopens after 19 yrs
A Sanatan Dharm Pratap temple, gutted in a fire incident in early days of militancy in Lal Chowk Srinagar, was today reopened after two decades on Janamashtami.
The temple, located in Aftab Market was among the several structures devastated in the blaze in 1991.
A special Puja was performed at the reopening ceremony.
