Srinagar, Sept 29: Hours ahead of the crucial Unified Headquarters meeting here, the Northern Army Commander today called on Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra and briefed him about the security situation in the state.
“Lt Gen B S Jaswal met the Governor at Raj Bhavan here and briefed him about the security situation in the state,” an official spokesman said.
Lt Gen Jaswal was accompanied by the GOC of the Army’s Srinagar-based 15 Corps Lt Gen N C Marwah.
During their extended discussions, the Governor and the army commander reviewed issues relating to recent attempts at infiltration from across the LoC and international border, the spokesman said.
They also discussed other matters having a bearing on the overall security environment in the state, he said.
The meeting comes hours ahead of the scheduled meeting of the Unified Headquarters to be chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah where the suggestions made by the Centre in its eight-point package will be discussed.
A review of Disturbed Areas Act, deployment of forces and the number of security pickets are among the suggestions given by the Centre in its package for normalising the situation in Kashmir Valley.
