Don’t politicize
This refers to the news “Targeting Education.” (GK Sept 28). The Jammu and Kashmir government is unnecessarily playing politics over the issue of future of students. The entire academic session is now over. It is time to hold examination. Both separatists and state government must give some breather from strikes and curfews so that the students are able to appear in the examinations without any trouble. I am sure the Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, would have revised the protest calendar in the light of examinations, had government not played politics over the issue. The moment Geelani said he would consider examination in the protest calendar, the state government chaired a high level meeting to discuss the issue, as if education was aazadi to be given to the people of Kashmir. At the same time, it sounded ridiculous that the Home Minister of India, P Chidambaram, issued a statement on an issue like opening of schools!
