Typhoid fever grips Boniyar
ALTAF BABA
Boniyar (Uri) Sept 4: The consumption of contaminated water from different streams by residents of Boniyar and its adjoining areas have resulted in scores being treated for typhoid fever. The affected areas include Noorkhah, Reshawari, Gingal and Nilsar.
The residents said that the symptoms of the fever started after they consumed water from the local streams. The water had got polluted due to the cloud burst two months back at Bijhama from where large quantity of gypsum from the Gypsum factories had got mixed in the stream thereby creating a white layer in the stream.
“Stream water had got polluted after the cloud burst in the area some two months back and lot of waste from the gypsum factories had got mixed with the water. The cloud burst has disturbed the PHE lines forcing PHE authorities to provide the stream water to the residents of the area,” said Ghullam Din of Noorkhah.
