Geelani amends calendar
Relaxation From 2 pm Today
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Sept 5: The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani Sunday announced afternoon relaxation in Monday’s shutdown call in view of Shab-e-Qadr. However the call for shutdown on Tuesday and Wednesday will remain in force.
In a statement, Geelani said the relaxation from 2 pm has been given to let people prepare for the night long prayers. The veteran leader made a fervent appeal to the youth to maintain discipline while staging protests. “They should not hinder the movement of vehicles and opening of shops during relaxation. I want to maintain that in our movement shutdowns and relaxations hold equal importance,” he said.
Geelani expressed concern over the indulgence of some “criminals and vested interests” in extorting money from truck drivers on highways. “We have received eyewitness accounts from various areas that after extortion these criminal take refuge in respective Police Stations. This clearly shows that they are working with agencies,” he said.
He urged people to take steps to catch hold of these elements and foil their activities.
Geelani strongly condemned the suicide attacks in Pakistan and expressed sympathy with the families the victims. “Pakistan is passing through worst period. It has become a victim of international conspiracies. Some vested interests there are projecting Islam in a negative way to defame Pakistan. At this crucial juncture, I urge the people of different communities there to remain united and jointly defeat the conspiracies against Pakistan,” he said.
