NIGHT PROTESTS ACROSS CITY
Srinagar, Sept 7: Massive and widespread protests broke out across the Srinagar city during the Shab-e-Qadr Monday night.
Immediately after Taraweeh prayers concluded, motley groups of youth took to streets in several localities including Nowhatta, Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowpora, Karan Nagar, Kralkhud, Gow Kadal, Budshah Chowk, Bemina, Batamaloo, Rambagh, Channapora and other localities.
The protesters, mainly young boys, raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans and marched through the streets.
At Nowhatta, the protesters attacked police station by pelting stones. Police resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protesters. They baton charged the youth and chased them away.
Nine protesters were detained by the police from the scene, a police official said. Protesters at Karan Nagar also attacked the police station with stones. Police caned the protesters injuring several of them. Police said one Asif Ahmed Bazaz of Karan Nagar was injured and shifted to B&J hospital.
At Khanyar and Nowpora, the protesters engaged police and CRPF personnel in ding-dong clashes which continued till dawn.
The protesters pelted forces with stones while the latter used slingshots to hurl back the stones.
