One-sided portrayal

VIEWPOINT

THEY PROJECT THINGS IN A WAY AS IF IT'S ALL CONFINED TO KASHMIR ONLY, BUT THE FACTS ON THE GROUND ARE DIFFERENT. NOT JUST KASHMIR, ALL REGIONS COUNT, AND ALL REGIONS HAVE SHOWN THEIR PARTICIPATION WRITES REYAZ AHMED

The ongoing unarmed and peaceful resistance, though heart wrenching because of the killing of unblossomed innocent children, young men & women shows no signs of abatement. It has begun to create ripples in the international media. This phase of movement is drawing a lot of international attention and is receiving due world media coverage, with world famous T. V channels such as Press TV, Aljazeera, Saudi TV, BBC. These media institutions have been covering events on day to day basis, holding debates, talk shows, discussing various dimensions of the issue. This has tremendously unnerved the indian leadership and in order to stifle & prevent this on going resistance movement from becoming the focal point of the international attention, it has activated Jammu based KPs & other communal elements as its propaganda machinery to project this movement as confined to Kashmir valley only. They portray the things in such a way as if nothing of the sort has been happening in the regions Jammu & Ladak. This virulent & damaging propaganda is meant to belittle the impact & importance of this phase of movement, which is spiraling out of Indian control and has succeeded in creating impact on the international horizon. This is highly imperative to counter this venomous propaganda by putting the things in their proper perspective. The muslim regions of Jammu such as Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Budarwa, Kishtawar, Darhal, Banihal & Gool Gulab Garh etc witnessed the whole hearted participation. People there protested against the brutalities and that must serve an eye opener. Jammu region as a whole has a mixed population with some areas having Muslims in majority & in some areas where hindus are in majority. The struggle in this sub region was sought to be quelled by arming to the teeth Village Defense Communities which unleashed a reign of terror against the people of this sub region. This method of  mixing army with civilians resulted in a lot of bloodshed and worst kinds of human rights violations. The impression left on the people is too horrible to be forgotten. In spite of this, people are actively participating in the current phase of movement. There have been arrests of Hurriyat leaders in Poonch, Rajouri etc, peaceful demonstrations are taking place in Banihal and Doda etc every now and then as the people of this sub region know that their destiny lies with kashmir. In reference to the Ladak region, it has to be implied that the region constitutes two districts of Kargil and Leh with the total population hardly exceeding two lakhs. The district of Kargil has 95% Muslims & 5% Budhists, while as the district leh has 35% Muslims and 65% Budhists. Over all the Ladak is a Muslim majority region contrary to the fact that otherwise is projected, proved in the so called parliamentary election won by a Muslim. The tragedy is that the whole of Ladak is identified as Budhist thereby downplaying the other factors. It may be too much to expect from such a small population, living under extreme weather conditions to run or participate in the liberation movement of Kashmir. The hearts of the majority of the people of Ladak are beating with those of Kashmiris & we are destined to be together.

So the Indian propaganda that the current phase of resistance movement is confined to Kashmir only is illogical and untenable.
