DAC to assess crop damage in Leh
Srinagar, Sept 8: The government has constituted a Disaster Assessment Committee to assess the crop damage in Leh due to cloud burst.
“The Committee comprising scientists of SK University of Agriculture Science and Technology-Kashmir and personnel from the Line Departments under Command Area Development Department will visit each village to assess the damage to crops and farm land and suggest immediate, medium and long term measures for reclamation to make it cultivable. The Committee will be assisted by Revenue Department,” said a communiqué issued by SKUAST-K adding that it would complete the survey within three weeks and would submit the recommendations to the high level coordination committee comprising Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-K and District Development Commissioner Leh, for final decisions.
It said the Committee was constituted following hectic deliberations by the senior officials in Leh.
The SKUAST communiqué said its Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Tej Partap who also participated in the meeting, visited Ladakh and Kargil for examining the ways to extend technical advice by the University for the reclamation of the flood affected farmlands damaged by the cloud burst.
The V-C who was accompanied by a team of University scientists visited the University Research Station and interacted with the farmers and other officials.
