KU rafting camp concludes

Srinagar, Apr 9: The white water rafting training camp, organized by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports department, Kashmir University, on river Chenab at Dera Baba, katra in Riasi concluded on Sunday. 
In the seven day camp 19 boys representing different colleges and post graduate departments participated. The camp was organized under the overall supervision of Director Physical Education, Prof Nisar Ahmed Rather, an official handout said.
“The participants were taught basic skills of river rafting including paddling, rescue work, river features, life saving and river hazards” handout quoted KU aquatic coach Muhammad Yusuf as saying.
“The trainees were able to raft down nearly 30 kilometres from Bara Deri (Talwara Bridge) to Dera Baba. The participants braved grade three rapids in the stretch. It is first time that the directorate of physical education conducted the training camp on this river, handout added. Pertinently earlier the KU students have paddled down the treacherous rivers like Ganges, Indus, Zanaskar, Suru, Sindh, Lidder, and Satluj.
