Jammu body threaten state-wide agitation

DOGRA CERTIFICATE ROW

GK NEWS NETWORK

Jammu Apr 10: Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF) today threatened to launch agitation if Government revokes its earlier order regarding issuance of Dogra certificate to the people of the region.
“We warn the administration, any surrender before the separatists’ pressure on the issue of recognizing Dogra identity will have a strong backlash here. The State will have to face another agitation similar to that was launched during the Amarnath land transfer row if it goes ahead with its decision to revoke the earlier order,” said Justice (Retd) Pavitter Singh.
Alleging that there is a deep rooted conspiracy to maintain hegemony of Kashmir over other parts of the state, Singh said, “We condemn the campaign launched by the separatists in Valley against the Government decision to confer certificate on people living in Jammu region which allows them some concession in recruitment in Indian Army and paramilitary forces”.
“They are trying to create scare and fear psychosis among Muslims that this step will erode their distinct ethnic identity”, he said.
Another leader of Forum, Narayan Singh expressed hope that the Muslims of Jammu, who he said are secular and nationalist to the core, will not fall prey to the “separatists agenda.”
“The benefit of the Dogra certificate will also be available to the Muslims, Sikhs and Christians in Jammu region and  any effort to rouse communal passions on this score will be foiled unitedly by all the nationalists”, he added.
Meanwhile, the Forum has decided to call a meeting of all its constituents to chalk out future course of action.
