JK starts skill development program in tourism sector

Srinagar, Apr 11:  Minister for Tourism, Nawang Rigzin Jora has said that a massive skill development programme has been initiated in the tourism sector aimed to train youth of the State and make them able to earn their livelihood on their own.
 He was addressing at a function after giving away certificates among the trainees at SKICC today.
 Minister of state for Tourism, Nasir Aslam Wani, chairman Board of Governors/ Commissioner-Secretary Tourism, Atal Dulloo and other senior officers of tourism department besides representatives of several tourism trades were present on the occasion.
 The minister, according to an official statement, said that training schemes have been devised by Union Ministry of Tourism to broad-base hospitality education in the State to meet the ever growing manpower requirements of hospitality industry. 
 He asked youth to come forward and take the benefit of these programs ranging from 6 months certificate course in food production, food & Beverage Service, Front office and Housekeeping, under CBSP, 8 weeks training programme in Food Production (cookery) and 6 weeks programme in Food & Beverage Service under Hunar- Se- Rozgar and 2 weeks programme as Tourist Facilitators, which have vast job potential at local, national and international market.
 He said these training courses have not been confined to Institute of Hotel Management, Rajbagh but conducted the programs at different locations both in Kashmir as well as Jammu,  He said the Institute achieved the objectives of these training schemes and succeeded in conducted programmes at far of places like Watlab and Naranag.
 The Minister said that 21 programs were conducted during the year 2010-11, including training programs conducted at Naranag, Mansbal, Phalgam, and Watlab.
 More programmes “Hunar-Se- Rozgar”   would be conducted, he added.
