Srinagar, Apr 12: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah on Tuesday looked concerned about the healthcare facilities in the City as he personally reviewed the construction of a upcoming super-speciality hospital and also chaired meeting of Government Medical College associated hospitals in Srinagar.
An official handout said: “The Chief Minister this morning visited the prestigious super specialty hospital site at Shreen bagh which is in the heart of Shahri Khas, where work on Rs. 137 Crore hospital is going in full swing.” Omar personally took stock of its work. He was accompanied by Minister for Medical Education and Youth services and Sports Dr RS Chib.
Later, at a meeting while making a presentation about the functioning of the 8 associated hospitals, the principal Govt Medical College Dr Shahida Mir informed the Chief Minister that these hospitals provide medical facilities to 3936 patients per day and also conduct 116 major and 151 minor surgeries.
As such about one million patients are being provided medical treatment annually in these hospitals associated with the GMC Srinagar.
The principal said that the total bed capacity of associated hospitals is 2305 of which 890 beds are in SMHS Hospital and 500 in LD Hospital, 200 in GB Panth 400 in CD Hospital while 150 beds are in Bone & Joint Hospitals. She said Chittranjan Mobile Hospital Srinagar is also having 30 bed capacity for the treatment of patients.
Dr Shahida Mir informed Omar Abdullah that one additional block is under construction at LD Hospital which would add more 200 beds to the hospital.
“The Chief Minister was informed that this prestigious project shall have trauma, Neurosurgery, Paediatric surgery, Cardiology, CVTS, and Nephrology Gastroenteology etc,” the official handout added.
“The hospital shall have a capacity of 220 beds ,of which 172 beds would be for in patients and 26 for I.C. U.”
Dr Shahida Mir said that orders for procuring 27 medical equipments have been issued of which 19 have been installed.
“Regarding the institution of Traumatology and allied super speciality project spread on a plinth area of 16535 square meters whose earlier proposed cost of the project was Rs 120 Cr which however has now been revised upto Rs 137 cr,” the handout said.
Omar was also informed that 98% work of Nursing college, costing Rs 12 cr which is a part of this prestigious project, has been completed.
An amount of Rs 5768.19 Cr have been spent till March 2011 on this project. Dr Shahida Mir informed the Chief Minister that the whole project is expected to be handed over to the concerned authorities by June 2012.
“Regarding construction of power substation, the Chief Minister asked SE PDD to prepare a DPR for the purpose immediately so that funds are released.”
Omar also directed Chief Engineer, UEED to take up the work forth with and also assured the Principal GMC that decision regarding the recruitment of medical and paramedical staff would also be taken in near future.
The Chief Minister impressed upon the doctors to fully dedicate themselves for serving the ailing community as the main objective of the health institution is patient care service including turmoil and disaster related patients.
He said GMC Srinagar and its associated hospitals are main healthcare providers to the entire population of Kashmir valley including Ladakh adding that the Doctors and the Para Medical Staff has to work with added zeal and dedication for providing medicare to the patients.
