Medico’s murder solved; 4 held

Shopian, Apr 12: Police today claimed to have solved the alleged murder of a 70-year-old doctor of Sofan Naman village here.
Dr. Masood Akhoon’s body was recovered from his car at Meemander village on March 26.
Giving details about the case, SHO, Javaid Ahmad Yatoo said, Dr Masood was allegedly kidnapped by four youth on March 25 from Damhal Kulgam while he was returning home. “After abduction, the youth took the doctor in an orchard at Mantraybugh and killed him. They placed the body in his car and hurtled it down into a gorge at Meemander,” he said, adding that at first instance, the medico’s death looked like an accident.
He said on some clues and spot investigation, it was found that Mudassir Ahmad Lone of Mantraybugh was allegedly involved in the kidnapping and subsequent murder of the medico, adding Mudassir was arrested and during interrogation, he named three alleged co-conspirators including Sartaj Ahmad Naikoo, Abbas Ahmad Bhat of Chak Mantraybugh and Altaf Ahmad Lone of Katipora who were also arrested.
“All the four have confessed of their involvement in the murder,” he said adding case FIR No 82/2011 U/S 302 and 364 had been registered against the accused.
SHO said the motive behind the alleged murder was being ascertained.
