On Baisakhi, Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara to host mega function

Traffic, SMC make special arrangements

Srinagar, Apr 13: For Baisakhi celebrations in the summer capital, the Sikh community will Thursday organize special functions at Gurudwaras with the worship place at Chatti Padshahi in Shahr-e-Khaas scheduled to host a mega congregation.
 The big function would be celebrated at Gurudwara Chatti Padshahi, Ranawari, a spokesman of a Sikh forum said.
 He said: “Bhai Ichpal Singh will present Kirtan while General Secretary Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee GPC, Manjit Singh will deliver a lecture on the occasion.”
 “Sikh Missionary College spokesperson, Novtej Singh will also deliver a lecture.”
 Apart from the Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara, functions will be held at other places including Gurudwara at Allochi Bagh.
 “Bhai Amrik Singh and Bhai Suraj Singh will perform Kirtan while Sikh Missionary College spokesperson Sardar Narinder Singh will deliver a lecture on the occasion,” he added.
 Giving the details about the Baisakhi celebrations Dr Kanwar Jeet Singh who teaches at SP College said: “The day is observed as part of the Khalsa’s birthday.”
 “On the same day Guru Gobind Singh Ji announced five K’s which include Kesh, Kirpan and Kara,” he added.
 Pertinently, on Baisakhi the Mughal Gardens in the City are thrown open for public.
 Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police Traffic City Maqsood –Uz-Zaman said the department has kept special route arrangements in place to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
 He said that additional deployment of traffic police would be in place at places like Chatti Padshahi, Mughal Gardens and the City centre. Besides, he said flying squads would monitor the traffic flow.
 For the sanitation, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has deployed special staff to ensure cleanliness particularly in the vicinity of Gurudwaras.
 Talking to Greater Kashmir, the SMC Commissioner Sheikh Mushtaq said the sanitation staff had already been deployed to ensure proper sanitation in the City while he is understood to be personally monitoring the arrangements.
 He appealed people to avoid littering on the streets on the day.
