VC hails role of doctors

Srinagar, Apr 13: Underscoring the role of doctors in society, Vice- Chancellor Kashmir University Prof Reyaz Punjabi Wednesday said that society should realize their role.
Addressing doctors in the auditorium of Government Medical College Srinagar, Punjabi said he has great regard for doctors but was not happy with the response of society.
“I pray our society which includes everyone should realize the role of doctors. I am really proud of doctors, the way they attend patients,” he said amid a huge applause from audiences.
Speaking on the Continuous Medical Education on Kidney Disorder organised by Department of Medicine, he said that such events promote awareness among people.
“Prevention will come when society knows about do’s and don’ts. These events promote awareness and we need to attend path of prevention,” he stated adding that “Centre of nephrology was emerging on top of the world”.
Delivering PowerPoint presentation, Nephrologists Dr Tajamul emphasized on various problems faced by the patients.
Principal GMC Srinagar Dr Shahida Mir, HOD Medicine Dr Gazanfar Ali were among the panelists. The CME was coordinated by Dr Javeed Ahmad. Later on vote of thanks was given Dr Tanver Masood.
The nephrologists appreciated the College principal, Dr Shahida Mir, for her efforts in establishing the dialysis unit in the SMHS. “The principal has played a pivotal role in procuring the state of the art equipment and getting it installed in short span of time,” the speakers said.
Prof Riyaz Punjabi also praised Dr Shahida for her role in establishing the research and academics in the College.
