FIRE FIGHTING WEEK COMMENCES
Srinagar, Apr 14: The fire fighting week began today with the department of Fire and Emergency headquarters Batmaloo organising programmes.
The Director General Fire and Emergency Service G A Bhat was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Rich tributes were paid to 66 firemen who lost their lives while hundreds were hurt in safe guarding the life and property of the people.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that purpose of observing this week is to make aware the people about immediate precautionary measures if fire breaks out mostly due to short circuit, bursting of gas cylinders or other electronic gadgets. He said people in such cases should cooperate with the fire fighting personnel and help control the fire from spreading further. He lauded the role of fire fighting personnel for their efforts in such situations without caring for their own lives.
A mock drill in this respect was also held on the occasion. A large number of civilians were also present.
