Staff hailed for saving library
Baramulla, Apr 14: The employees of Library department and firemen saved the district library here on Wednesday after a devastating blaze destroyed many structures at Jadeed Road Auqaf Market near Masjid Bait-ul-Mukaram.
The library has a rich collection of 22,000 books.
“Timely efforts by the employees of Library and Fire & Emergency Services saved the library which was on the verge of catching fire,” the locals said, adding the window panes of the library broke due to the impact of heat.
Director Libraries & Research, Khalid Bashir Ahmad, today visited the site and appreciated the efforts of the Library employees lead by senior Librarian, Shabir Ahmad in saving the books including a large number of reference titles. Khalid said given the magnitude of the fire and the fact how close the library was situated it was difficult to believe that it was saved.
