Meat crisis

While there is no doubt that food prices all over the world have touched the sky and India is no exception, Kashmir in particular is worst hit because we depend on imports of the food items and we produce very little than what we consume. Meat is the staple for people of the valley and not only we consume it on daily basis but all our social gatherings are subject to availability of meat.
When meat is in such a demand, one may ask a simple question that why till date have we not been able to increase the productivity of sheep in Kashmir. This way we could get this commodity cheaper and it would have been available every time. But unfortunately all Governments have failed in this regard and people too who have invested their money in many other sectors but food sector is where our dependence is increasing day by day. Our politicians have to take note of a very unfortunate phenomenon that our agricultural land is fast being transformed into non-agricultural uses and this way our dependence on imports increases and in such a scenario we have to raise this issue very seriously. An issue like loss of agricultural land is as worthy of attention as "Dogra certificate". We have to focus our attention on increasing the productivity of food items before setting larger goals for us.
