Faktoo’s family contests
Srinagar, Apr 17: The family of a separatist leader, Dr Ashiq Hussain Faktoo alias Muhammed Qasim Faktoo, who is serving life imprisonment in Central Jail here, has contested the police claims that he is involved in the killing of Jamait-Ahli-Hadees president Moulana Showkat Ahmed Shah.
Faktoo’s family said the allegations by police are aimed at hampering his release. “The State Review Board had recommended release of Dr Qasim who has completed 18 years in prison. However, the State Government which has challenged his release in the Court, sensing failure in the legal battle, has made a dramatic disclosure of Dr Qasim’s involvement in the Moulana’s killing,” Faktoo’s relatives, Nusrat and Irfana said.
They alleged that since 2008 unrest, Dr Aashiq was being continuously implicated in the false cases.
“Dr Qasim is the only jail inmate in the contemporary history who has utilized his detention period productively by achieving highest academic qualifications including Doctorate of Philosophy within the four walls of jail,” they said adding he had no role in the affairs of Jamait-e-Ahli-Hadees affairs.
“We appeal the Muslim Ummah in general and state in particular not to give any heed to such allegations leveled by the government out of sheer frustration,” they said.
