‘Govt Committed to preserve Heritage’

Srinagar, Apr 18: On the World Heritage day, Jammu and Kashmir of Art, Culture and Languages on Monday organized a seminar cum Heritage Exhibition in the City.
 “Pledging to preserve cultural heritage of the state, Divisional Commissioner Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon said that every step would be taken to preserve heritage and cultural property,” an official handout said.
 “The government is committed to preserve the heritage and cultural property of the state,” Samoon said.
 While addressing the audiences, Former Director General Tourism Saleem Beg suggested the involvement of NGO’s for the preservation and conservation of the Heritage property.
 “We have rich cultural heritage but lack proper preservation. We have to look into the way to conserve this heritage,” Beg said.
 Prominent writer Ghulam Nabi Khayal said the dream of Tehzeeb Mahal has not been materialized as yet. He appealed the government to take concrete steps in materializing this dream to a reality.
 Earlier Additional Secretary of the Academy Shamim Akhter said that “World Heritage Day provides us an opportunity to peep into our rich cultural legacy”.
