GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Apr 22: Former principal Government Medical College and noted physician, Dr Naseer Ahmad Shah today suggested that some doctors from district and sub-district hospitals in Valley should be allowed to work for some time in tertiary care SK Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura for upgrading their clinical skills.
“We need to incorporate SKIMS as an organization in upgrading the skills of doctors from the field to ensure that they remain abreast about recent developments in medical sciences and know the ways and means to improve healthcare,” Dr Naseer said while addressing medicos on the inaugural day of 16th Postgraduate Research Presentation Programme organised by the Institute here.
He said the doctors should be allowed to work for a certain period in the Institute, adding the medicos after getting expertise and sensitized about various issues, should implement the measures in the hospitals they work in.
Dr Naseer said the expertise gained by these doctors would be highly beneficial for the patients visiting the peripheral health institutions. Dr Naseer also emphasized the role of localized research in improving the healthcare in the State. “The Institute has played a pivotal role in the bio medical research particularly on various healthcare issues,” he said adding the doctors while giving due care to research, should also develop efficient clinical skills.
Former Principal GMC, Prof. Girja Dhar said, “While continuing medical research, we should not forget the role that clinical skills play in managing the patients which happens to be the main job of the medical fraternity.”
Director SKIMS, Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar, hailed the research work in SKIMS in improving the healthcare standard in the State. He appreciated the role of faculty and paramedics working at the Institute in ensuring the optimal medical care and standard medical education.
Dean Medical Faculty Prof. M A Darzi put-forth the detail of the degrees–Graduate, Postgraduate, Post-doctoral awarded at SKIMS and informed the audience that most of these degrees had been approved and recognized by the Medical Council of India in the last two years.
Organizing chairman, Dr. Muhammad Maqbool, said about 70 research papers would be presented during the programme.
