Gujjars seek re-verification of ST certificates

Jammu, Apr 24: The Gujjars today urged the senior government functionaries to probe the alleged issuance of ST certificates by some officials to people belonging to other castes.
The State Advisory Board for the Development of Gujjars and Bakerwals had recently alleged that various Tehsil offices had fraudulently issued 98 certificates of Schedule Tribe in the Valley.
In a statement, Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation said, an appeal had been issued to all heads of the Government departments urging them to conduct re-verifications of all Scheduled Tribe certificates submitted to them by their employees at the time of securing jobs or promotions since 1990.
The Foundation asked the community members to keep it informed about the issuance of “fraudulent” Gujjar/Bakerwal /ST certificate so that the issue could be taken up with Crime Branch, Vigilance, CBI and other investigating agencies of the State and Centre.
