GOVT ASSURES SMOOTH TRAFFIC, REMOVAL OF ENCROACHMENTS

Srinagar, Apr 26: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon on Tuesday chaired a high level meeting to review the arrangements regarding regulation of traffic in Srinagar, an official handout said.
Later Dr Samoon, Inspector General of Police(Traffic), Hemant Kumar Lohia along with other officials toured the City for an on the spot assessment of the traffic scenario.
SP, Traffic City, Maqsood Uz Zaman gave a presentation on various bottlenecks and problems due to which traffic has compounded in the City and the steps being taken by the department to regulate in view of ensuing Darbar Move.
The meeting amongst others was attended by Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Sheikh Mushtaq, Deputy Inspector General of Police Traffic-R Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Sr Supdt of Police Srinagar and other officers from various agencies like UEED, PWD (R&B), PDD, ERA, NBCC, Transport and SRTC.
“After threadbare discussions in the meeting Dr Samoon directed the PWD (R&B) to remove all the bottlenecks on the roads and immediately take up repairs of roads, footpaths and the central verge on the MA Road,” the handout said.
The Power Development Department was directed to remove electric poles from the main roads.
“Taking stock of the Airport Road the Divisional Commissioner, directed the Economic Reconstruction Agency to ensure that the drainage work to be completed on war footing basis for which work should be carried out in double shift,” the handout added.
Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation was directed to issue “legal notices to all such shopkeepers who had made encroachments on the roads and to take immediate steps to ensure that the Khokhawallas, Raidawallas, vendors do not cause any hindrance to the traffic and pedestrian movement.”
Vice Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority was also “directed to immediately take up the work of repairs/renovation of Batamaloo Bus Adda which is in a dilapidated condition while Public Works Department was directed to ensure renovation of roads immediately.”
The IGP Traffic informed the meeting that barricades have been procured, which will soon be put up at identified places in order to ensure smooth movement of traffic.
Srinagar Municipal Corporation was also directed to ensure that stray cattle are not allowed on roads which are causing hindrance in smooth movement of traffic.
After meeting, the Divisional Commissioner and the IGP along-with other officers conducted on spot visit of various areas of Srinagar City to make an on spot assessment of traffic regulations and removal of bottlenecks causing hindrance for smooth movement of traffic.
