Altaf unhappy over inadequate timber supply
Jammu, Apr 27: Minister for Forests and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad, today expressed displeasure over complaints regarding inadequate supply of timber and asked the officers of SFC and Forest Department to dove-tail their activities to overcome shortcomings in this regard.
Speaking at a meeting, Altaf asked the officers to make advance planning and preparation for ensuring timely supply of timber to the people adding any laxity would not be tolerated. He said the department should be fully ready by June-July for supply of timber to the people.
He said a foolproof system needs to be put in place for this purpose and the concerned officers and agencies should make arrangements right from the current month to ensure supply of timber from July.
Altaf also directed for constituting Village Forest Committees across the State immediately so that central assistance under CAMPA could be utilized for the forest conservation.
He called for formulating a comprehensive works plan for CAMPA to kick start the forest works as early as possible.
He said a plantation drive should be started in Jammu with the active participation of people.
