'KVIB schemes benefit 50,000 artisans’

Jammu, April 3: A seven-day long State Level Exhibition-cum-Sale by Khadi & Village Industries Board concluded here today. CEO KVIB Ravinder Singh was the chief guest on the valedictory function.
Appreciating the work of artisans and their strenuous efforts to popularize the craft in rural and urban areas of the state, Singh stressed for establishment of micro units.
He said the productive employment “as promoted by the KVIB is key to progress of industrial sector in J&K.”
He said Kashmiri embroidery is an integral part of Kashmiri culture and due to its unique style motifs, design and colours, its demand is increasing in India as well as abroad.
State Director, KVIB, B R Chouhan said around 50,000 persons were provided employment opportunities by the KVIB on self-help basis in the state.
He said at national level around 1.45 crore people are benefited by the KVIB schemes.
He said 25 per cent subsidy for open categories and 35 per cent for reserved categories is being provided by KVIB against the loan component of Rs 50,000 to Rs.25 lakh.
He said the tiny and micro industries sector has showcased the competencies to capture the global market thereby delivering the fare share to its holder.
He added that buyers wait round the year for this exhibition cum sale of Khadi and handicrafts goods. He suggested the artisans and craftsmen associated with small scale industries under KVIB to produce quality products as per the needs of market.
In all 45 stalls were installed in the premises which included a stall set up by Santosh Michael of Jammu district, displaying various Khadi & Village products like cotton Khadi, shawls, chadders, hosiery, namdas, gabbas, readymade garments, leather goods, Kashmiri shawls, honey, wooden items, sports goods, crewels and jute products, decorative pots, Ladakhi handicrafts, embroidered suits, pashmina shawls, paper machie, jams and juices etc.
Variety of woolen, pashmina, embroidered shawl were one of the major attractions of the buyers for its unique ethnic embroidery work and traditional designs. In addition to this printed cotton dresses went hand to hand in the exhibition. Purity of edible products like honey etc was very much preferred by the buyers.
