JK receives 1.29 cr pilgrim, tourists in ‘10
Jammu, Apr 4: Even as Jammu and Kashmir battled with the summer unrest last year, 1.29 crore tourists and pilgrims had thronged the state during 2010.
"As many as 1,29,07,561 pilgrims and tourists visited shrines and tourist resorts in Jammu and Kashmir during 2010", J&K Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora said today.
He said there has been increase in the arrival of 1,50,6934 pilgrims and tourists in 2010 as compared to the previous year.
Jora said that in 2008-09, 11,40,0627 tourists and pilgrims had visited the state from within and outside the country.
Giving a break up, he said 11,48,6899 pilgrims visited the shrines of Mata Vaishnodevi, Amarnath, Shiv Khori and Shahdra Sharief in 2010, while 14,20,662 tourists visited Kashmir Valley, Patnitop, Mansar (both in Jammu) and Ladakh region.
