Grenade attack, firing in old city
SDPO Khanyar Escapes Unhurt
Srinagar, Apr 5: Unknown persons hurled a grenade towards the vehicle of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Khanyar near Islamia College in old Srinagar Tuesday evening. However the officer escaped unhurt.
“SDPO Parvez Ahmad had gone to Nowhatta area following an accident there. As he was returning at around 7:25 pm, a grenade was lobbed on his vehicle near Islamia College. But it missed the target and exploded on the roadside,” SP North Srinagar, Showkat Ahmad told Greater Kashmir.
He said the blast was followed by firing, but SDPO was safe.
Eyewitnesses said that the explosion created panic in the area with people running for their lives.
A spokesperson of Islamic Front, Ahmad Furkan, in a telephonic message claimed responsibility for the attack.
“The attack was aimed at sending a signal to the Government who have unleashed reign of terror against Kashmiris,” he said.
