Police starts helpline against eve-teasing in south City
MOAZUM MUHAMMAD
Srinagar, Apr 5: The police has started a helpline against eve-teasing in south City, a hub of coaching centres in the summer capital.
To begin with, officials said, the services have been restricted to the south City adding that the same could be applied to other zones as well.
Superintendent Police, South City, Sujeet Singh told Greater
Kashmir that due to the presence of many coaching centers in his area, particularly the plush Airport Road, the “eve-teasing cases were becoming the cause of concern for the people”.
The SP said he received many delegations with people complaining of harassment met by their female wards.
“They even said they were scared to send their daughters out of home,”
Kumar said.
“As the cases of eve teasing surged, we decided to form a police squad comprising of five police officers who’ll keep watch on such cases,” he said.
The squad members include SDPO Shaheed Gunj, SDPO Saddar, and SHO of both police stations.
The SP said the complainants can call 9622023326, 9419007686 and 9419002457 for police assistance.
“These phone numbers will be available round the day. They can also register their complaints through email antistalkingsouth@gmail.com,” he said adding the identity of the caller would be kept a secret.
He said 15 cases of eve-teasing were registered during past three months.
