Justice Kalifulla is acting CJ

Jammu, Apr 6: Justice Fakkir Muhammad Ibrahim Kalifulla, senior-most Judge of Jammu and Kashmir High Court has been appointed as the state’s acting Chief Justice.
The order to this affect was issued Wednesday by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice following recommendation by the President of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil.
“Justice FM Ibrahim Kalifulla senior-most of Judge of the J&K High Court will perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice with effect from April 7, 2011”, the order says.
Justice Kalifulla replaced Chief Justice Dr Aftab Hussain Saikia, who retired today after attaining of age of 62 years.
Justice Kalifulla hails from Karaikudi, Sivagangai District, Tamil Nadu and was enrolled as an Advocate on August 20, 1975.
He was the Standing Counsel for the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and elevated as Permanent Judge of Madras High Court on March 2, 2000 and took oath on February 24, 2011 as Judge of JK High Court.
