SKIMS Bemina hostel ready for months, authorities ‘forget’ takeover

Srinagar, Apr 6: For the benefit of doctors and medical students at SKIMS Medical College Hospital Bemina, the government got a hostel constructed. Though the building is ready for months, the authorities seem to have forgotten its takeover to put the facility to use.
 The story goes like this: Soon after the building got ready, sources said, the contractor locked it over some dispute on payment with the concerned authorities. The dispute was resolved by a high level enquiry committee framed by state government. But the takeover never realized.
 “As such the students and doctors have to bear without any boarding facility in the college,” sources said. 
 The students and doctors said sometime back they “mounted pressure on hospital administration by forcibly occupying few rooms in the hostel.”  “But the rooms are lacking all basic amenities,” they said.
 When contacted Principal SKIMS College Bemina, Dr Mushtaq Ahmed said the building would soon be taken over.
  “It will be done within 2-3 weeks. After that everything will run smoothly. Presently the handover-takeover is on personal relations,” Dr Mushtaq said.
 Pertinently Medical Council of India guidelines mentions hostel as one of the requisites for recognition of a medical institute.
