PDD enforces additional power cuts as Baghlihar shuts for inspection
Jammu, Apr 7: Several districts of Jammu region on Thursday battled to long power cuts in view of reservoir desilting and repair work on 450 Megawatt capacity Baglihar hydro-electric project.
Official sources told Greater Kashmir that management of Baghliar hydel electric project had to be shut in order to carry out some urgent maintenance and repair works, besides desilting.
“The shutdown was taken from 9 am to 6 pm which led to complete disruption of power supply in the region. Out of total 450 megawatt capacity of the hydel project, the J&K gets only 50 percent (225 MW) share. Due to non-availability of this 225 MW power supply the Power Development Department (PDD) was forced to impose additional curtailments,” sources said.
The Chief Engineer, Power Development Corporation (PDC) Ajay Gupta however said the power supply was restored at 5:10 pm. He told that a shutdown was taken for desilting of reservoir and some repair work.
Reports reaching here revealed that the hilly districts, including Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri and Poonch were worst affected and people had to face power cuts for more than ten hours.
