REVOKE IT: MIRWAIZ
UMER MAQBOOL
Srinagar, Apr 8: Asserting that only two and a half districts of Jammu cannot dominate the majority population in the state, chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday demanded immediate revocation of the Dogra certificate or “else it would have serious consequences.”
Addressing Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid here, Mirwaiz said that issuance of Dogra certificate was a conspiracy to engineer changes in the Muslim majority character of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We should be cautious enough that issuance of certificate is not for getting employment, but a deep-rooted conspiracy to reduce the Muslims into minority in state, particularly in the Chenab Valley region. After five to 10 years, these certificates would be issued to non-state residents. Then they would be settled here and given state subject certificates to change the demographic ratio of Muslims,” he said.
Mirwaiz said nefarious policy of thrusting interests of limited population over majority was unacceptable and “would have serious consequences.”
“If decision of issuing Dora certificate is not revoked forthwith, the government would be responsible for consequences,” he said, calling for unity among political parties and masses over this “national issue.”
Mirwaiz said from 1947 and especially after 2008 agitation, conspiracies are being hatched to divide the state for weakening the freedom movement.
“After Amaranth agitation, these elements are encouraging division conspiracies by ideas like Jammu Desh, Dogra Desh to weaken the movement. They want to divide people in the name of Kashmiri, Ladakhi, Dogra, Gujjar and Pahari to fulfil their nefarious designs. Their only intention is to tell the world that only a miniscule Kashmiri population wants Azadi,” he said.
Mirwaiz said that Hurriyat Conference believes in unity of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh despite geographical, ethnic and religious differences between the regions.
“If there is intention of dividing the state, then two and a half districts of Jammu cannot dominate over the entire state. In accordance with democratic principles no minority can keep majority hostage on ethnic lines,” he said.
Mirwaiz said that Muslims of Jammu region were supporting freedom movement and had rendered countless sacrifices right from 1947. “People of Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch and other areas in the region have been rendering sacrifices for past 21 years,” he said.
Mirwaiz further said that Chenab Valley is a separate entity and sentiments and aspirations of people living in the region are in consonance with Kashmiris.
“No order on ethic supremacy would be accepted at any cost,” he said.
