Villagers allege misuse of NREGA funds

TARIQ RASOOL

Garoora (Bandipora), Apr 8: The villagers of this block today alleged misuse of funds under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA).
In a written complaint to Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, the villagers alleged that although Rs 3 lakh have been withdrawn from government exchequer “the same have not been disbursed to the villagers who have worked during last seven months under the NREGA.”
They alleged that the amount has been misappropriated and distributed among those who have “not worked and were not entitled to receive the amount.”
The villagers said they had implored to the BDO to provide them with a list of NREGA beneficiaries. “But despite our requests we have not been provided with such list,” they said.
Meanwhile, the villagers insisted that NREGA be implemented as per the guidelines enshrined in the Act itself to ensure uniform wages to all the poor villagers who are working under the scheme.
“The officer in BDO office, VLW and Contractor has duped the poor villages who have without seven months together, no payment has been made”
