1 dies, 44 wounded in Udhampur mishap
Udhampur, July 31: One person died and 44 others were injured when an over-crowded matador fell into a gorge near here on Sunday morning.
Reports said that the ill-fated vehicle, JK14A- 1323, skidded off the road and fell into a 15 feet deep gorge near Ladan Power House about 5 km from the town.
The vehicle was over-loaded and some of the passengers were also sitting on the roof of the bus, police said. One person, identified as 55-year old Rattan Chand son of Tulsi Ram resident of Kaldi, died on the spot.“In a vehicle with a capacity of 25 passengers, 45 people were traveling”, a police officer said adding that the over-loading was said to be the primary cause of the mishap.
Police and locals later rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to District hospital Udhampur. Twenty eight persons were admitted in the hospital, while others were discharged after first-aid.
