Army, Navy retrieve body

Srinagar, Aug 9: Army and Navy men have retrieved the body of a woman who was drowned in Jhelum in Uri.
 According to defence communiqué, Rukhaya Bano, 23, daughter of Ghulam Hassan Dar, of Lachchipura fell into the river while crossing the foot bridge connecting Lachhipura and Chandanwari on August 5. It said the efforts made by the locals could not save her life.
 “The parents of the deceased approached Army for assistance in retrieving the body. After deliberations with the civil authorities, a team was assembled, comprising Infantry personnel for security, engineers for specialized tasks and marine commandoes for diving tasks. A complete synergy of effort was ensured, with the Police, NHPC authorities and civil administration by the Army. The body was finally recovered on August 8 and handed over to the police,” the communiqué added.
