Governor enrols for UID card
Srinagar, Aug 10: The process for preparation of Unique Identification Number (UID) or 'Aadhaar' formally commenced today with Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and his wife Usha Vohra filling up enrolment forms and completing other formalities.
The process for issuance of Unique Identification Number or 'Aadhaar' Card was undertaken by a team of senior officers headed by Secretary, Information Technology and Science Technology M K Dwivedi, an official spokesman said.
The Governor emphasised the usefulness of the entire process being completed within a fixed time schedule so that people, particularly those in the rural areas, get benefit.
He said coordinated action should be taken to ensure that the Card becomes useful for delivering benefits under NREGA and Old Age Pension Scheme among other programmes and also leads to promoting banking habits among the rural population.
Briefing the Governor, Dwivedi said the project is likely to be completed in the state in three years.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was the first to enrol for the UID number on August 1.
