India-US defence contracts total ` 37,181 crore
New Delhi, Aug 10: The total value of military contracts between India and the US signed between 2004 and 2011 totals Rs.37,181 crore, the Rajya Sabha was informed Wednesday.
Defence Minister A.K. Antony said in a statement that defence items were procured from various indigenous as well as foreign sources including the US. "This is a continuous process undertaken for the modernization of the armed forces to keep them in a state of readiness to meet any eventuality," he said.
He said contracts had been signed for purchase of various equipment including C130J Transport aircraft, VVIP Boeing, Harpoon Missiles, Sensor Fused Weapons, C-17 Globemaster III and INS Jalashwa. IANS
