SMC seizes 50 Kg polythene
Srinagar, Aug 10: In continuation to its anti-polythene drive, Srinagar Municipal Corporation seized 50 kilogram polythene from a bicycle owner carrying polythene after the Municipal squad under the supervision of Muhammad Amin sanitary supervisor visited various areas of Srinagar city. The squad caught hold of bicycle owner near Nigeen for supplying polythene bags.
According to polythene squad, the cycle owner managed to escape from the spot but the polythene that was successfully seized with the local support was destroyed at central office here in Karanagar in presence of solid waste management officer Manzoor Ahmad Turray.
Also Minister for Forests and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmad in his recent meeting addressing the officers of pollution control board and municipal corporation in Srinagar, has directed the officers to give final warning to manufacturers and dealers against the sale and stocking of polythene that can have hazardous impact on life on earth and eco-system. Stressing upon the anti polythene measure the Minister said that this anti polythene drive was for the public good appealing to people to come forward and help in contributing this noble cause.
