6 dead, 10 injured in Kathua accident

Jammu, Aug 11: At least six persons died and ten others sustained critical injuries in a road accident in Jammu’s Kathua district on Thursday.
“A bus (No. JK02P-5071) on way from Jammu to Kathua skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge near Mohanpur this morning. Six passengers died on the spot while ten others sustained serious injuries,” officials said.
Soon after the accident, locals and police reached the spot and started rescue operations. All the injured were rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment. 1 dead, 22 injured in Rajouri
One person died and 22 others sustained injuries, when an over speedy mini-bus overturned turtle in Sunderbani tehsil of Jammu’s Rajouri district, official sources said.
“The injured were rushed to the sub district hospital for treatment, while the body of the driver was shifted to the mortuary room of the said hospital for legal formalities,” official sources said, adding the five critically injured persons were referred to the Government Medical College Hospital Jammu.
Deceased were identified as Ajay Kumar, Chuni Devi, Mohan Singh, Khem Raj and Seta Devi.
Woman dies, youth injured in hit-n-run case
A woman pillion rider died, while the rider youth is struggling for his life in the Government Medical College Hospital after their motorbike was hit by an unknown vehicle at Saroor area in Samba district, police said on Thursday.
It said that a motorbike JK02AM-2589 was on its way to Jammu from Samba, when an unknown vehicle hit them, leaving the pillion rider dead on the spot and critically injuring the rider.
The deceased woman was identified as Kamlo Devi. The injured was rushed to the GMCH for treatment where his condition was stated to be critical.

At least seven students of Kendriya Vidyala-1 in Udhampur sustained injuries when the matador they were travelling in skidded off the road plunged into a roadside gorge at Moara Morh, this morning.
Police said that the mini-bus JK14-1487 on its way towards the KV-1 plunged into the gorge when the driver of the vehicle lost control while negotiating a sharp curve at Moara Morh.
There were fifty students on the bus among which seven suffered injuries, eyewitnesses said.
