Land slides kill 2 Vaishno Devi pilgrims enroute

Jammu, Aug 14: Two pilgrims, including a nine-year-old girl, were killed and six others were wounded after they came under a landslide, triggered by heavy rains, enroute to the famous shrine of Vaishno Devi, this morning.
Official sources said that at least eight pilgrims, on their way to the shrine, were buried under a huge landslide in between Bhawan to Adkwari route on Sunday morning. The passerby raised an alarm and informed the police, which rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation with the help of the locals.
Two pilgrims died on the spot, while six others were injured in the mishap, official sources said adding, “The wounded pilgrims were immediately shifted to the hospital in Katra for treatment, from where a critically wounded woman was referred to the Government Medical College Hospital”.
Those who lost their lives were identified as Bhupinder Jah (30) son of Bachan Jah of Bihar and Aditti (9) daughter of Rajesh Pathania of Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh.
The injured were identified as Shashi Kanta (54) wife of Chuni Lal of Hamirpur of Himachal Pradesh, Aditya Pathania (11) –brother of Aditti who died - son of Rajesh Pathania of Himachal Pradesh, Amandeep Kesari (26) son of Suresh Kesari of Bihar, Jasbir Singh (32) son of Teeja Singh of Punjab, Vivek Kumar (31) son of Hari Shanker of Bijapur in Bihar and Rinku Singh son of Baldev Singh of Bathanda area of Punjab.
